Sara Cuthbertson
For Lexington School Committee
Elect Sara Cuthbertson
March 3, 2020
I’m excited to announce that I am running for School Committee! I have lived in Lexington for ten years with my husband, Ryan, and our two young children who have attended Lexington Children’s Place, Estabrook, and Diamond.
As a former educator, I have naturally channeled my passion for education into volunteering in our schools while being a stay at home parent. I have held a variety of Estabrook PTO Board roles, including two years as President. I am currently Estabrook’s METCO Family Friends coordinator, a role I cherish given the tremendous impact our METCO program has on all students. I also chair the district-wide PTA/O Presidents’ Council, serve on Lexington’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC), and am a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Most recently, I joined Lexington Public Schools’ Master Planning Committee to develop a comprehensive, 10-year plan for all school facilities.
Through my work across our school system and the broader community, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from a diverse array of volunteers, LPS staff, and community leaders as we’ve worked together to advocate for all of Lexington’s students. I am acutely aware of our current educational issues, including ongoing concerns surrounding equity and inclusion, student stress, increasing enrollment, and addressing Lexington High School’s overcrowding and building conditions. I have also gained tremendous insight into our capital and fiscal challenges, and understand the need to be good stewards of our shared resources.
My breadth of experience and depth of knowledge would enable me to seamlessly transition into working collaboratively with fellow School Committee members, our Superintendent, and community leaders. Lexington’s public schools are excellent, but we still face challenges. I am prepared to put my experience to work serving Lexington and our children. I would love to have your support.
